What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an alternative to BOTOX and is injected to smooth and soften fine lines and wrinkles. It is gently injected into muscles to inhibit the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine; this leads to muscular paralysis of the affected fiber. The goal is to relax specific muscles enough to stop the folding of skin that, over time, etches fine lines and wrinkles into the facial skin. What is the treatment experience?

You can expect a comfortable treatment at Austin Cosmetic Surgery. You will be comfortably resting in our state-of-the-art facility. If you are sensitive, a topical numbing cream can be applied. Many people find the injections so fast that the minor pinch is not troublesome. The Xeomin is injected into specific muscle strands with a very fine needle. The entire procedure takes only about 15 to 20 minutes, unless you have numbing cream, which needs some time to activate, adding a few minutes to your appointment.

Results of BOTOX fading over time? Time to try Xeomin.

Some patients who have relied on BOTOX for years see a diminishing effect. This may be the result of developing antibodies to the added proteins in BOTOX. Switching to Xeomin may be the answer in these cases, as it is free of any preservative proteins. It is pure and produces essentially the same outcome as BOTOX, although it may require a few more days.

Who is a candidate for Xeomin?

Xeomin is great for anyone with dynamic wrinkles, lines that are visible even with your face at rest. Healthy adults who want to smooth out their fine lines and wrinkles make good candidates. Some patients that have already built immunity to BOTOX have switched to Xeomin with good results. With younger clients starting preventative “BOTOX” it is sometimes best to start with Xeomin in hopes of providing less risk of building antibodies over the years.

How does Xeomin compare to BOTOX?

Xeomin is unique in the fact that it doesn’t contain the preservatives that BOTOX and other neurotoxins such as Dysport have. The active therapeutic component is all that makes up Xeomin, this leaves some to refer to it as the “organic” or “clean” version of the neurotoxin.

Studies are still being done to show if there is less of an immune response and ability to build resistance to Xeomin vs BOTOX over time because of its lack of preservatives. The onset of action can take longer than BOTOX, but duration should be similar.

Most start to see results in about seven days versus about 3 to 4 with BOTOX, with full results achieved at about the two-week mark.
